Passing Down the History of Second Sino-Japanese War in Order to Fortify the Consensus of the General Public over National Defense(Jan. 7, 2015)

This year, the year of 2015, is the 70th anniversary of the victory in Second Sino-Japanese War and the reclamation of Taiwan. The Ministry of National Defense held a press conference concerning the series of memorial events of “the 70th anniversary of the Victory in Second Sino-Japanese War” yesterday and announced the planning for 8 events to be held in this year, which include the exhibition of audio and video contents and artifacts from the period of Second Sino-Japanese War, academic conference, opening military camps to the public, painting book publishing, etc. These events may not only help the nationals to know the truths about the Second Sino-Japanese War, but they may also honor the heroic deeds of the soldiers who sacrifice their lives for the country.
The Ministry of National Defense held the first press conference in this year at “Boai Campsite” yesterday morning. The national army spokesman, major general Shaohe Luo, said that the main idea of the events is “to promote the history and spirit of fighting back against enemy and fortify the consensus of the general public over national defense”. The series of memorial events of “the 70th anniversary of the Victory in Second Sino-Japanese War” is to going to be held, and the events include publishing memorial monthly calendar, a exhibition of truths concerning the Victory in Second Sino-Japanese War, international academic conference, a special exhibition for the memorial of the Victory in Second Sino-Japanese War, opening military camps to the public and showing war potentials, memorial concerts, a memorial ceremony and the publishing of painting book. All these events will help the nationals to remember the history and to know the historical truths in the Second Sino-Japanese War.
About the planning of the events, The director of Cultural and Psychological Warfare Section, major general Zongji Yu, illustrated in the press conference that the Ministry of National Defense will respectively hold “the exhibition of the truths about the Victory in Second Sino-Japanese War” and “the special memorial exhibition for the 70th anniversary of the Victory in Second Sino-Japanese War and the reclamation of Taiwan” at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Armed Forces Museum and Academia Historica on July 1 and August 13. Precious historical artifacts and photographs will be shown to present the truths of the Second Sino-Japanese War.
To explain the historical meaning of Second Sino-Japanese War, The Ministry of National Defense will first arrange for the military campsite opening of the troops which have had distinguished services in the war and will have them perform the exhibition of war potentials and fighting techniques. Memorial concerts will also be held in the northern, central and southern region of Taiwan. Some famous songs during the war time will be selected and presented in order to promote the historical meaning of the victory in Second Sino-Japanese War and to fortify the attention of the general public toward national defense.
In addition, the “memorial ceremony for the 70th anniversary of the Victory in Second Sino-Japanese War” will be held on September 3, the Armed Forces Day of ROC. The representatives of the soldiers who have participated in the war, the bereaved family of the sacrificed soldiers, international representatives and press media will all be invited together to pay respect to the people and soldier who sacrificed their lives for the country in the war. The “memorial painting book of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in Second Sino-Japanese War” will also be published. With abundant pictures, illustrations and descriptions, the honorable history of ROC during the Second Sino-Japanese War will never be forgotten.
